Add 10.0 ml of Fixer Test Solution to 100.0 ml of used fi xer. Shake the solution. If nothing happens<br />

or if a clear cloudiness appears the fi xer is okay. If a white, or yellow-white, precipitate is<br />

formed the fi xer should be thrown out.<br />

FORMULA #189<br />

Hypo Clearing Agent<br />

Water at 125F/52C, 750.0 ml<br />

Sodium sulfi te, 200.0 g<br />

*Sodium bisulfi te, 50.0 g<br />

Water to make 1.0 liter<br />

* <strong>The</strong> sodium bisulfi te lowers the pH in order to prevent softening of the fi lm emulsion. If paper is<br />

to be used, the bisulfi te may be left out in order to improve the paper’s gloss.<br />

Dilute 1:9. After fi xing rinse the print or fi lm for 1 minute in running water then transfer to<br />

the HCA.<br />

This developer can be used for redevelopment following the use of Kodak S-6 Stain Remover.<br />

Residual Hypo Test<br />

Small traces of hypo in fi lms or prints accelerate the rate of deterioration. It is diffi cult to test<br />

for small quantities of hypo, but the following test will indicate when the fi lm or prints may<br />

be considered reasonably free from hypo.
