318 THE DARKROOM COOKBOOK
FORMULA #199
Rapid Film Dryer
(Paul Lewis)
This formula will reduce the drying time of fi lm without the risk of alcohol clouding the fi lm.
Isopropyl alcohol, 30.0 ml
Distilled water 970.0 ml
Edwal’s LFN, 12 drops
Soak the fi lm for 3 to 4 minutes in the rapid drying solution. It will dry in less than half the
normal drying time after removal from the solution. Do not wipe the excess solution off. The
emulsion will be very delicate, so handle the fi lm carefully. Exposure to a stream of fl owing
air (i.e., a fan or air conditioner) will shorten the drying time, though it will increase the risk
of dust in the emulsion.
REVERSAL DEVELOPMENT
(Chapter 13: Reversal Processing and Enlarged Negatives)
The following formulas are given in the order they are to be used, not alphabetically as are
other formulas. Three possible fi rst developers are given. D-67 will produce a higher contrast
positive.
First Developer for High-Contrast Positives
