<strong>Peru</strong> <strong>Tribune</strong>, The (IN) - Saturday, November 5, <strong>2011</strong>Michael A. Mabrey, age 62, Lewisburg, passed away at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, <strong>2011</strong> at his residence. Born Oct. 17, 1949 inKokomo, he was the son of Paul Mabrey and Veronica Parsons. Michael had been employed as a locomotive engineer byConrail and Norfolk Southern Railroads. A 1967 graduate of Kokomo High School, he enjoyed motorcycles, fishingautomobiles and mushroom hunting. Michael is survived by daughters, Paula Mabrey (companion Bob Hedrick), Royal Centerand Porshae Plake, Walton; son, Joey (Sharon) Mabrey, Las Vegas; sisters, Suzy Williams, <strong>Peru</strong>, and Liz (Kevin) Roseman,Zionsville; brothers, Herb Parsons III, <strong>Peru</strong>, Tavis Mabrey and Jason Mabrey, both of Kokomo. Eight grandchildren alsosurvive, Chelsea Mabrey, Hunter Hedrick, Travis Hedrick, Nick Plake, Gage Plake, Josea Welch, Chance Mabrey and JacobMabrey; Niece and nephews, Jessica Judd, Dalton Judd, Braden Williams and Stefan Williams; step-father Herb Parsons Jr.,<strong>Peru</strong>, and good friends, Bruce Lipp and Chris Underwood. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at KroegerFuneral Home. There will be no funeral service. Burial will be private. Jimgraduated from <strong>Peru</strong> High in 1970. He drove for UPS for more than 20 years and retired from McGavic’s John Deere. He wasone of seven children born June 22, 1952 in <strong>Peru</strong> to the late Kimble W. and Nellie K. Hughes. He married his high schoolsweetheart, Kathy D. Hughes (Garner), on June 6, 1971 and she survives. He will forever be remembered by his family Boband Rose Hughes, John and Sue Hughes, Terry and Joyce Hughes, Judy and Dale Correll, Marilyn and Gene Bishop, and Kimand Greg Fox, his beloved children, Trevor and Annie Hughes, Shanna Hughes and Paul Emmons, and Evan Hughes, treasuredgrandchildren, RJ Beam, Jenna and Emma Hughes, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to knowhim. Jim loved to play the guitar, teach Sunday school class, his train set and John Deere tractors. He was a member of the<strong>Peru</strong> Church of the Brethren. Jim touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his sense ofhumor to the very end. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at the <strong>Peru</strong> Church of the Brethren, 134 E.Fifth St. on Thursday, Nov. 10, <strong>2011</strong> at 10 a.m. with Pastor Phil Cruea officiating. She was born June 7, 1922 to Luke and EvaLouise (Landgrave) Devine, both of <strong>Peru</strong>. Alice married George Walker Sr. on Dec. 25, 1952. Together they raised sevenchildren. Eva Louise (Dee Dee), deceased, John Walker and Companion Kae York, <strong>Peru</strong>; George Walker and wife Angela,California, Alan Walker and companion Julie Ressett, <strong>Peru</strong>, Daniel Walker, <strong>Peru</strong>, Charlie Walker and wife Becky,Indianapolis, Mary Ulery and Husband Jeff, Illinois. She has 16 grandchildren; Lindsay Walker, California, Clayton Donovan,Myra and Ella Walker, California, Whitney Walker, Kokomo, Lauren Walker, Greenwood, Caroline Walker, Chicago, LukeJoseph Walker, Bloomington, Shae Walker, <strong>Peru</strong>, Allison and Christian Walker, Indianapolis, Camille, Gage, Bay and BlissUlery, Illinois. She was expecting her first great grandchild in April of 2012. She graduated from <strong>Peru</strong> High School andoperated Devines Grocery on South Broadway with her mother. She later married George Walker Sr. and was a homemakeruntil starting Walker Real Estate, which she operated over 50 years. She was a lifelong resident of <strong>Peru</strong> and a member of St.Charles Catholic Church. She was actively involved with organizations like the Daughters of Isabella, St. Charles Altar andRosary Society. She believed in the right to life and fought strongly for it. She was a past president of the Women's DemocraticParty and a member of the Miami County Realtors Association as well as a past president of the Miami County EconomicDevelopment Corp. She helped many people who struggled in life by providing food and housing to those in need. Shesupported many Catholic charities including the Monastery of the Poor Clares located in Kokomo. She loved God and raisedher family accordingly. She enjoyed travel as well as reading stories to children at St. Charles School. Her life in thiscommunity impacted all who truly knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, daughter Eva Louise(Dee Dee) and two brothers, Bill and John Devine. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10, <strong>2011</strong> at 10:30 a.m. atSt. Charles Catholic Church. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 9 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Aprayer service will begin at 6:30 p.m. that evening.
