Third St.<strong>Peru</strong> <strong>Tribune</strong>, The (IN) - Friday, June 24, <strong>2011</strong>Richard R. “Ric” Ranucci, 86, <strong>Peru</strong>, died at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, <strong>2011</strong> at Millers Merry Manor Nursing Home,<strong>Peru</strong>. He was born in Binghamton, New York, on October 21, <strong>2011</strong> to Ermindo and Anna (Stripe) Ranucci. He married JoanMonahan, his wife and best friend for 56 years, on March 14, 1955 and she survives. Richard retired from the U.S. Air Forceafter 23 years of military service. During WWII he served with the fourth marine division in the battle of Rio and Namur,Saipan and Iwo Jima. Also, he served in Korea from 1946 to 1950 with the second marine division and received the KoreanService Medal. He was a member of VFW Post # 2067. Richard is survived by his wife, Joan; his son, Rick Ranucci, ofCarmel; his grandchildren, Jessica Ranucci, of Worchester, Mass., Mark Ranucci, of Carmel, and Jack Ranucci, of Carmel; themother of his grandchildren, Kathleen St. Louis and her husband, Dale, of Carmel; a brother, Armand Ranucci, of Binghamton,New York; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Monahan and his wife, Joanne, of Homosassa, Fla. He was preceded in death by bothparents, and two brother-in-laws, Jimmy and Michael Monahan. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday atFlowers-Leedy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Father Francis Kilcline officiating. Friends may call Saturday from 4 p.m. untilthe time of serve at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A private mass memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorialdonations may be made to the Knowling Family Pavilion through the funeral home.Harley Monroe Schmidt 1919 ~ <strong>2011</strong> Harley Monroe Schmidt, 91, of Pleasant Grove, Utah,formerly of <strong>Peru</strong>, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 24, <strong>2011</strong>.He was born November 12, 1919 in <strong>Peru</strong>, Indiana to August and Anna Schmidt. He was the youngestof 10 children. Harley grew up in <strong>Peru</strong> and graduated from <strong>Peru</strong> High School in 1938. He marriedFrances Elaine Denton on June 25, 1941; they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1950. Francesdied in 2001, and his death reunites them one day before their 70th wedding anniversary. Harley loved<strong>Peru</strong>, Indiana and lived there for 82 years. He was a conductor on the Amtrak and C & O Railroads for35 years, working the Cincinnati and Chicago routes. He shared with his family his love for fishing,baseball, basketball, and football. Upon retirement he turned his efforts to genealogy and familyhistory. He worked tirelessly for the last 26 years of his life linking families together. Vacations were spent visiting his familyin Utah. He was a life long devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully. Harley issurvived by his children, Andrea McCann, Orem, UT; Stan (Karla) Schmidt, Orem, UT; John (Lisa) Schmidt, SaratogaSprings, UT; Steve (Kristy) Schmidt, Whitewater, CO; Dave (Terri) Schmidt, Bluffdale, UT; Chris (Lorie) Schmidt, TrophyClub, TX; Karyle (Bart) Adams, Pleasant Grove, UT; 33 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death byhis wife, daughter, Elaine and son-in-law, Dale McCann. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 27, <strong>2011</strong> at 2:00 p.m. atthe Orchard Ward Chapel, 828 South Locust Ave, Pleasant Grove, UT. She was born March 17, 1931 inEstill County, Ky., the daughter of Millard and Rosa (Crabb) Smith. She married Floyd P. Wolfe May 27, 1949. He precededher in death July 12, 2009. Catherine was a retired press operator from United Technology. She is survived by her children,Floyd E. Wolfe, <strong>Peru</strong>, Cherie (Mike) Sparks, <strong>Peru</strong>, and Tammy Gardner, Indianapolis; nine grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 17 brothers and sisters and two grandchildren, ToshaMarie Hudson and Steward Kelly Wolfe.
