He was a member of the Otterbein Masonic Lodge #561 and was the Past Master of the OxfordMasonic Lodge. Bill was an honorary life member of the Peru Maennechor, a member of the Valley of Indianapolis AncientAccepted Scottish Rite, a member of the Glen Owens American Legion Post #14 and the Peru Elks Lodge. He was named anHonorary Colonel in the Mississippi Militia by Mississippi Governor J. P. Coleman. An avid golfer, Bill has also served as thegolf coach for the North Miami High School, and he enjoyed fishing. Bill was known for the warmth of his smile that wouldlight up the room. He had an infectious love for life, family and friends. Surviving in addition to his wife of more than 54years, Janet, is his son Kerry Christopher of Navarre, Florida, his daughters Gayle Christopher of Leeds, Alabama and BlytheDeOrive and her husband Aaron of Austin, Texas and a granddaughter Elena DeOrive. A memorial service celebrating the lifeof William J. Christopher will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 WestMain St., Peru, Indiana. He was born in Miami County on Dec. 11, 1925, the son of Floyd and Isa Fishburn Gallahan. Dean married MaryHelms at the Church of the Brethren Parsonage in Mexico on Nov. 13, 1948 and she survives. Dean graduated from JeffersonTownship High School, Mexico, in 1945 and entered into the U.S. Army. After his discharge from the service, Dean joined hisbrothers, Bun and Deloise in the operation of the Gallahan Brothers, which they established on the banks of the Eel River onFebruary 26, 1946. In 1954, Dean and his wife Mary established the current Gallahan Oil Company. In 1967, the truckstopwas built on U.S. 31, and in the early 70's three service stations were purchased in Peru. The Gallahan Oil Company has grownfrom a small service station to what it is today, due primarily to the hard work and efforts of Dean and Mary Gallahan, theirfamily and loyal employees. Dean was a member Mexico Church of the Brethren and attended the Olive Branch Church ofGod. He was a member of the Peru American Legion Glen Owens Post #14, a 50 year member of the Mexico Masonic Lodgeand past patron of the Vashi Chapter Order of the Eastern Star of Mexico. Surviving is his wife of more than 62 years, Mary,his children Jeri Lyn Smith and husband Randy of Akron, Lance Gallahan and wife Carrie of Peru, Kevin Gallahan and wifeLaura of Peru, Lori "Bugs" Laycock and husband Jeff of Peru, a brother, Russell (Bun) Gallahan and his wife Cheravee ofPeru, grandchildren, Betsy Hiffner and her husband Barry, Casey Smith, Sally Nixon and her husband Josh, Taralyn Gallahan,Allison Gallahan, Kyle Gallahan, Sarah Gallahan, Keegan Laycock and his wife Nikki and Shea Laycock, and greatgrandchildren,Lucas Hiffner, Nathan Dean Hiffner, Dash Nixon, Crew Nixon and Delaney Roseberry. He was born April 14, 1934 in Winona, Minn.to Clifford and Mary Brown. John was married Oct. 18, 1980 on the fourth tee at Rolling Green’s Golf Course to VictoriaPrather Holland, who survives. John served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He moved from Minnesota to Indiana in1963. He lived and worked in Fort Wayne and Peru at Square D. Company before moving to Shelbyville in 1988, where heworked for Indiana Cash Drawer and Gencorp. In 1996 he retired and in 1999 John moved back to Peru after becomingvisually impaired. John was passionate about the game of golf, having set a course record in Winona and being blessed withfour holes in one. And He could visualize every hole he had ever played.
