was a semi-truck driver for 43 years. He also operated a trucking service for several years. He fascinated his family with storiesof his trucking days. He also enjoyed fishing, motorcycling and snowmobiling. He was a member of Howard-MiamiMennonite Church where he served in various positions. The position he enjoyed most was serving as custodian. Carl andEsther served in that position for more than 20 years. Carl also enjoyed going to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildrenparticipate in their sporting events. Carl was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Loy and Anne (Rooney) Loy, who survives. Heand his wife of 21 years, the former Gretchen Althouse, were married on April 21, 1990. Being the son of Air Force Lt. Col.William A. Loy, he benefited from his father’s overseas assignments, living in Taipei, Taiwan, and Izmir, Turkey, along withMichigan, Texas, South Carolina and Missouri. The family settled in <strong>Peru</strong>, Ind., when he was in eighth grade. Mr. Loy was agraduate of <strong>Peru</strong> High School and attended Vincennes University. He served in the U.S. Army for four years reaching the rankof MP Sergeant. He began his 21 year career with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons at Marion Penitentiary in Indiana,transferring to Lewisburg Penitentiary, Pennsylvania, where he served on SORT (Special Operations Response Team) assistingwith out of state emergencies. He was Lead Firearms Instructor at Lewisburg Penitentiary and had recently been teachingfirearms to Pennsylvania State Constables. Upon retiring from the BOP he joined Dyncorp through the U.S. State Departmentperforming high risk duties including security and training locals in Afghanistan in 2005. Upon his return from Afghanistan, hewas elected State Constable in Limestone Township holding that position until his death. In his spare time, Jim enjoyedrunning, visiting new places, being a strong Notre Dame football fan (his father’s alma mater) and spending time with hisfamily and pets. He was involved with Mixed Martial Arts Shows locally and on a national level. He was a founding memberof the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Constables. Jim was a volunteer at RiverWoods Senior Living Community for 15 years.He loved and adored his wife and children, who will miss him greatly. He was a true U.S. patriot who loved his country. She was born Dec. 10, 1911 in <strong>Peru</strong>, Ind. to H. Frank and Daisy (Layman) Peters. She graduated from <strong>Peru</strong>High School in 1929 and continued her education by taking classes offered through a Federal Education Program during thedepression. Mable was married to Orville Sonafrank on Dec. 22, 1935, and he preceded her in death. During her working years,Mable did a variety of office jobs, and was a co-owner of a family neighborhood grocery. In 1987, Mable retired after servingseveral years as a secretary to the mayor of <strong>Peru</strong>. The center of her life, outside of her family, was her love of Christ and herchurch. As a member of the Church of the Brethren, she faithfully served as long as she was able. She was the church pianistfor over 50 years and a lifetime deacon. Mable touched many lives with Christ's love, and will be missed by many. Mable issurvived by a son, John and wife Pat (Zartman) Sonafrank of Kokomo; Roy Martin, husband of Joyce Martin who passed awayin 2004; grandchildren, James and Carrie Sonafrank, Beth Soblotne, Darrin and Laurie Martin and Andrew and RebeccaMartin; along with great grandchildren, Lauren and Nathan Soblotne, Bailey, Madison, Emily and Jake Martin and Gavin andSadie Sonafrank. She was married to Marvin Leo Balsbaugh who preceded her in death on Jan. 11, <strong>2011</strong>. Patty graduated from <strong>Peru</strong>High School in 1941. She was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and spending long hoursplaying games and working with arts and crafts with her adoring grandchildren. She was employed for a time at the MeckTelevision Factory in <strong>Peru</strong> and at Sears-Roebuck in Marion. In 1954 the family moved to Madison, Ind., and Patty becameactive in the school lunch program at North Madison Junior High School and became an ardent sports fan of the Madison Cubsbasketball team. When the family moved to Marion in the late 1950's she became a den mother for a local Cub Scout Pack andfor her daughter's Brownie Scout Troop as well as a fan of her son's Little League and Marion High School baseball teams. Sheloved animals and was constantly adopting stray cats and dogs as well as caring for her own family pets. During her life, Pattyattended the First Christian Church in <strong>Peru</strong>, The North Madison Christian Church and the First Baptist Church of Marion.Survivors include three sons: William Lee, Marion; Michael Mark, Marion; and David Marvin, Indianapolis.
