He loved working at his family’s business, Cress Garage, in Twelve Mileas well as watching racing, gardening, riding his motorcycles and spending time with his nieces. He was born in Cass County Nov. 1, 1937 to Kermit and Edith Hunt. Gerald was a retired conductorwith the C & O Railroad and a member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include a son, Chad Hunt, North Grove; adaughter, Holly Brown, Logansport; a grandson, Matthew Roach; three brothers, Thomas Hunt and wife Pat, Rolla, Mo.,William Hunt, Logansport, and David Hunt, Chesterton; and three sisters, Bess Austin, Orlando, Fla., Shirley Young, Syracuse,and Carol Jones, Winamac. "Buck" Bruce, 72, <strong>Peru</strong>, passed away at 6:08 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, <strong>2011</strong> at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. Hewas born in Winifrede, W. Va. on April 5, 1938 to William H. and Augusta Meadows Bruce. Buck married Carolyn S.Williams in Charleston, W. Va. on July 15, 1958, and she preceded him in death on July 20, 2008. Buck served as anoncommissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years, retiring as a senior master sergeant in 1983. His militarydecorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, AirForce Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbonand Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon. Buck was a member of the Bunker Hill Free Will Baptist Church and a lifemember of the Miami County VFW Post 2067. He is survived by sons, Phillipa E. "Sam" Bruce Jr., <strong>Peru</strong>, and Alan K. Bruce,Washington, D.C.; a sister, Mary Snodgrass, Troy, Mich.; brothers, Bobby Ray Bruce, Wattsburg, Pa., and Eaul "Jack"Berman, Spotsylvania, Va.; a sister-in-law, Joann Sunday, <strong>Peru</strong>; several nieces and nephews, including special nephews TeddyTurley and Steve Waselchalk. Buck was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Carolyn; and eight siblings. Amemorial service celebrating the life of Phillip E. Wendell was a retired Miami County farmer. Wendell had a passion for living which one couldn’t help butnotice. He had an infectious love for life, family and friends.
