She was born Jan. 5, 1933 in Houston, Miss. to Forrest W. and Allie Mae CriddleCollums. She was a graduate of Woodland high School in Woodland, Miss. On March 12, 1950 she married Willie EddThompson in Chicksaw County, Miss. He preceded her in death May 8, 2002. They moved to Nappanee in 1968 fromMississippi. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker. She and her husband had owned Willie’s Market in Elkhart for many years.Mrs. Thompson loved her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening and flowers. Max White, 88, of Wabash, died at 1:20 p.m., Monday, May 23, <strong>2011</strong> at Miller’s Merry Manor East in Wabash. He wasborn Aug. 4, 1922 in Ora to Floyd E. and Lacy R. (Kessler) White, Sr. Max was a 1940 graduate of Culver high School andattended Anderson College. He was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII. He married Ruthann Brackenhamer in <strong>Peru</strong> on Jan. 13,1950. He was a service technician for Northern Indiana Public Service Company, retiring after 33 years. He was a member ofthe Wabash First Church of God, and in 1986 became an ordained minister in the Church of God Anderson. He was a formermember of Gideons International. After retirement, Max worked summer youth camps and as a campground pastor at theChurch of God campground at Yellow Creek Lake. He enjoyed working with youth groupds, spending time with the “noongroup” at the Wabash Donut Shoppe, and enjoyed being with people. He also led devotions at Wabash Skilled Care Center andEastwood Place, in <strong>Peru</strong>. Max and his family moved to Wabash in 1960, coming from <strong>Peru</strong>. He is survived by his wife,Ruthann White; 2 children, Sue A. White and Steven M. (Margie) White; grandson, Benjamin S. (Shanna) White; greatgranddaughter,Abbi Campbell, all of Wbash; sister, Melba Easterday of Culver; brother, Floyd E. (Liz) White Jr. of <strong>Peru</strong>. Hewas preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241Manchester Avenue, Wabash, on Friday, May 27, <strong>2011</strong> at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Robb Rensberger officiating. Maggart, LTC, USAF retired, age 90, of <strong>Peru</strong>, passed away at 4:47 p.m., Sunday, May 22, <strong>2011</strong> at his residence.He was born in Noble County on May 16, 1921 the son of Russell and Ruth Shock Maggart. Dick was a 1939 graduate ofCromwell High School in Cromwell, and attended Indiana University at Ft. Wayne. A paragon of America's GreatestGeneration, Richard L. Maggart enlisted in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. As a 22 year old 1st Lt. and a B-17command pilot, Dick flew 32 missions in B-17s from England all over Europe during WWII. He flew his first mission toSarreguemines, France on May 24, 1944 and two days later he took his crew and went on a raid to Mannheim, Germany, whichwas his first taste of an actual combat mission. During his 23rd combat mission to bomb Coubronne in France his plane was hitby anti-aircraft fire knocking out the left inboard engine, moments later additional anti-aircraft fire knocked out the secondengine. As the plane swung out of formation in an attempt to return to an English air force base the third engine was hit andknocked out and they were left flying on one engine. Miraculously, Dick was able to navigate his plane across the EnglishChannel and crash land on English soil. His military decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal withthree Oak Leaf Clusters and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal. Dick returned to civilian life followingWWII and ran the Wawassee Airport. With the outbreak of the Korean War he was called back to active duty and remained onactive until the war ended. After the Korean War Dick purchased Keller Kleaners in <strong>Peru</strong> in 1953 and owned and operated ituntil his retirement in 1986. He also co-owned and operated Rolling Greens Golf & Dining, the former Mississinewa CountryClub, from 1978-1984. Dick was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a charter member and first Commander ofthe Cromwell American Legion Post. Dick also belonged to the <strong>Peru</strong> Elks Lodge, <strong>Peru</strong> Moose Lodge, Miami County VFWPost #2067 and Cromwell Masonic Lodge #705. He was an avid IU basketball fan and thoroughly enjoyed playing golf. He issurvived by his sons Richard L. Maggart, Jr. of <strong>Peru</strong> and David R. Maggart and his wife Bonnie of Phoenix, Ariz., a daughterDeborah Huff of <strong>Peru</strong>; grandchildren Jennifer Maggart and Melissa Maggart; a sister Rose Albrecht of Massillon, Ohio and his
