She had worked at Utah Radio in Huntington from 1961 to 1976, where she served as the union treasurer.She loved gardening, canning, working jigsaw puzzles, crocheting and taking walks. Dorothy was born March 6, 1926 inHartford City, the daughter of Gola and Millie (Rheam) Coons. On July 1, 1946 she married Gilbert Wallace in Anderson andhe passed away in April 2001. She is survived by a daughter Ellen (Allen) Fisher of <strong>Peru</strong>, three sons Russell (Judy) Wallace ofAndrews, Larry (Jan) Reichenbaugh of Fort Wayne, Melvin (Brenda) Lee of Kentucky, nine grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildrenand four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters Mary Ann Coon, May Brown,Betty Cox, two brothers Gola Coons and Melvin Coons and grandson Michael Eugene Pearson. Dick married Virginia Ann Shuckon Dec. 31, 1953 and she preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 1996. He then married Sandra VanDorn on June 23, 1998 and shesurvives. Dick was a 1953 graduate of Kokomo High School where he was a member of the wrestling team and he belongs tothe Amboy United Methodist Church. He was employed as a tool and die maker for 30 years at Delco/GM. He was a devotedhusband and grandfather and particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Dick enjoyed woodworking, playingcards, horseshoes, ping pong, board games and traveling. Surviving in addition to his wife Sandra of Kokomo are his childrenStephen Batey and his wife Pam of Amboy, Scott A. Batey and his wife Nan of Pleasant Lake, Ind. and Sabrina Honda and herhusband Kevin of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Carolyn Budd of Greentown; 10 grandchildren and several greatgrandchildrenand great-great grandchildren. "Curly" Hiers, age 74, of Fairmount, died Monday, Sept. 26, <strong>2011</strong>, at Miller' s Merry Manor in Marion after a shortillness. Dwain was a truck driver and member of Teamster Local 135 of Indianapolis. He drove for Essex for 14 years and alsofor Hi-Way Dispatch, Carey Transport of Lafayette and Gladieux of Ft. Wayne. He also farmed for Gough Family Farms ofFairmount and Morrie Hull of Summitville. Dwain enjoyed delivering the Helping Hands Christmas Baskets. He was amember of the Madison County RC Fliers Club. He was a woodworker and enjoyed making his planes from scratch and was amember of the Grant United Methodist Church. Dwain was the son of the late Omer Hiers and the late Flossie (Draving)Hiers. He was born in <strong>Peru</strong> Indiana on April 20, 1937. He graduated from <strong>Peru</strong> High High School in in 1956 and marriedEvelyn L. Walls on Aug. 26, 1961. She survives in Fairmount. He is also survived by one daughter, Janet (J.D.) Liston,Fairmount; one son, Daryl Hiers, Alexandria; a sister, Sue Lundberg, <strong>Peru</strong>, sister-in-law, Audrey Hiers, <strong>Peru</strong>; two nieces, LauraBates, <strong>Peru</strong>, and Renee (Dan) Ray, <strong>Peru</strong>, two nephews, Chuck Lundberg, Montana, and Mike Lundberg, <strong>Peru</strong>; and great niecesand nephew: Nathan Ray, Lindsey Lundberg and Leera Arguello. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, John,and Ronald "Buck." Arrangements are being handled by Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, where thefamily will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 29, <strong>2011</strong>.
