Preceding him in death is his father, Ervil Sparks, mother-in-law Halina Moore andfather-in-law Charles Moore. Rob’s love for trains began with joining the C & O railroad and continued when he joinedAmtrak. His love was passed on to his grandchildren, Seth and Zachary, as well as great niece and nephew Courtlynn andTrevon, taking the train to Chicago many times to ride the trolley to Navy Pier. He enjoyed working in his yard and plantingflowers, which his youngest great-nephew Landen would help him plant. He loved fishing, taking many early morning fishingtrips with his father Ervil, brother Tim, daughter Tammi and brother-in-law Mark, never wanting to leave until he had caughtone. He enjoyed his hunting trips as well. Roby loved sports, from watching college basketball with his wife to coaching manychildren in basketball, T-ball and Babe Ruth. He also officiated high school basketball games and umpired softball for manyyears, creating many memories with family and friends. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Flowers-LeedyFuneral Home, 105 W. "Bill" Smalley, 84, of <strong>Peru</strong>, passed away at 2:50 a.m., Friday, Feb. 25, <strong>2011</strong> at Dukes Memorial Hospital. He wasborn on April 6, 1926, in <strong>Peru</strong>, the son of William Carl and Edith Smalley. Bill married Ruth Brottmiller at St. John's LutheranChurch on Dec. 25, 1951, and she survives. Bill graduated from <strong>Peru</strong> High School in 1943. He joined the US Navy and servedon the aircraft carrier USS Shangri La during World War II. He was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Billwas a tool and die worker at Chrysler retiring in 1982 after more than 25 years service. Surviving in addition to his wife, Ruth,is a brother, Robert Smalley of Roann, and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great niecesand great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Smalley, and a sister, Esther Myers. A servicecelebrating the life of Bill Smalley will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, <strong>2011</strong>, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 181 WestMain St., <strong>Peru</strong> with Pastor Kenneth Greenwald officiating. Burial will follow at Ever Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.Family and friends will gather from 5-8 p.m., today, Feb. 28, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. Glassburn, 81, Miami County, passed away at 5:38 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, <strong>2011</strong>, at his home. He was born in MiamiCounty on Jan. 25, 1930, to Ora and Jeanette (Nettie) Glassburn, Miami County. He married Marilyn J. (Pearcy) Glassburn in1951, and she preceded him in death March 1, 2006. Dale was a farmer and was also employed by Continental Steel for 36years as a machinist. He is a lifetime resident of Miami County, a member of the First Baptist Church of Galveston, and servedin the United States Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his children, Allen R. (Marcia) Glassburn, Fort Wayne,Michael K. (Kimberly) Glassburn, Miami, Gary L. (Michelle) Glassburn, Kokomo; a brother, Wayne Glassburn, Nokomis,Fla.; grandchildren; Alicia Biliouris, Alexandria, Va., Megan Glassburn, Missoula, Mont., Nathan Glassburn, Galveston,Amanda Cornwell, Ypsilanti, Mich., Mallory Glassburn, Galveston, Carlee Glassburn, Kokomo, Garrett Glassburn, Kokomo;and great-grandchildren Chase Biliouris, Mary Cornwell, Hobie Biliouris and William Cornwell IV. Dale was preceded indeath by his parents, his wife, and his brothers Paul Glassburn and Rex Glassburn. Dale passed peacefully at home and went tobe with the Lord and Savior. While we grieve for his loss, we know he is in Paradise with his wife of 54 years and they areonce again walking together hand and hand. We will miss his laugh, his love of us and the many kind words. He will always bewith us in our hearts until we meet them again in heaven. We all love you Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa. A funeral servicewill be held Thursday, March 3, <strong>2011</strong>, at the First Baptist Church of Galveston, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Warren Purcellofficiating. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church ofGalveston and Miami County Military Rites Team.<strong>Peru</strong> <strong>Tribune</strong>, The (IN) - Tuesday, March 1, <strong>2011</strong>Donald Partlow McFarling, Brownsburg, died at home Saturday, Feb. 26, <strong>2011</strong>, from Parkinson’s Disease. He was a founderand longtime president of McFarling Foods, an Indianapolis foodservice distributor. Born in Clark County, Ill. in 1922, Donwas the youngest child of Leonard I. McFarling and Ora Dell Partlow McFarling. He enjoyed a rich childhood, nurtured by hisolder siblings, especially his sister, Nelle Marie McFarling Barkley. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940, and served inthe Pacific as a radio operator. He was among millions of veterans who returned home after World War II and resumed his life,marrying Esther Malinda Ulrey in 1946. Along with his brothers John, James and Robert, he started the company, then calledMcFarling Brothers, in 1948. Through the years, the brothers built a company known for its integrity and honesty. Don and hisbrothers worked together and played together with numerous trips to fishing camps in Canada. Don loved tennis and poker. Helearned to fly in a Starman Biplane, and built his own ham radio station in the basement of his home, where he talked to otheroperators around the world. He was an avid reader who especially enjoyed the works of Louis L’Amour. For many years, Donhosted the McFarling Family Reunion on July 4, with well over 100 relatives and guests attending from all over the U.S. and
