consciousness-based education and government5) Rigorous statistical tests were used to assist in disallowing measurementbias: time-series analysis was utilized. An objective decision statisticwas used to chose a final model for an equation, in the form ofminimizing the AIC, (the Akaike Information Criterion) which indicatesthe most adequate and parsimonious model (Larimore & Mehra,1985).6) The results cannot be attributed to coincidence, due to the consistencyof highly significant p values across variables in contrast to thelack of consistent change in the control period at a comparable time ofyear in another year. The findings may be viewed as indications of increased coherence insociety. Taken together, they indicate the kind of change that couldlead to a paradigm shift. The Demonstration Project and other suchshort projects throughout the 1980’s, and the permanent group of TranscendentalMeditation and TM-Sidhi practitioners in Fairfield, Iowahave contributed to coherence in society in a way that can be measuredand replicated. The results of these studies indicate that variables representinggovernment success, public approval, and stress in Washington,D.C. are responsive to the field effects of consciousness in the directionof greater positivity. This points toward the possibility of a more effective, successful government with the support of the constituency, if alarge group were practicing the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program in the nation’s capital on a permanent basis—a Groupfor a Government.ReferencesBorland, C., Landrith, G.S.
