consciousness-based education and Governmentall layers of everything from the unmanifest to the manifest. (Maharishi,1995, p. 236)Maharishi goes on to explain that since this unified field of naturallaw that contains the total potential of all the manifest laws of natureis the basis of everything, it is the basis of our own consciousness. It isconsciousness itself, the intelligence that structures creation. 2The total potential of Natural Law is the pulsating, reverberatingcharacter of intelligence. It is consciousness in its unstructured state.Whatever we see in the observable universe is just an expression of theunobservable intelligence of Natural Law, which is the pure creativeintelligence of the observer himself. (Maharishi, 1995, p. 236)Hagelin comes to the same conclusion on the basis of a correspondencebetween human intelligence and the intelligence found in nature, derived from the Lagrangian of the superstring. The most natural conclusion to be drawn from such a detailed quantitativeand qualitative correspondence is that the unified field of pure, selfinteractingconsciousness and the unified field of modern theoreticalphysics are one and the same. (Hagelin, 2002, 60)The conclusion that the unified field of consciousness and the unifiedfield of natural law are one and the same is the basis for understandinghow Maharishi Vedic Science can help the individual live a life inaccord with natural law.2Maharishi uses a simple analogy to illustrate how consciousness, or Being, is the essential, nonchangingconstituent of all creation, with its multiple forms and phenomena. The elements, hydrogenand oxygen are unchanging and yet they are the basic building blocks of the changing forms of waterin its vaporous, liquid, and frozen states. “Even though the properties of gas, water and ice are quitedissimilar, the essential constituents hydrogen and oxygen are always the same. As the oxygen andhydrogen, remaining in their never-changing states, are found exhibiting different qualities, soalso Being, remaining in Its never-changing, eternal, absolute character, is found expressing Itselfin the different forms and phenomena of diverse creation” (Maharishi, 2001, 33–4). This analogyillustrates that consciousness not only underlies all diversity; it is permeating creation at everypoint. It is the essential constituent of all of creation.88
