Chopra (42)points out that the Vedic tradition that Maharishi represents, as well asthe roots of most cultures of the world, identify the unified field of naturallaw with a field of pure consciousness, which can be directly experiencedby the human nervous system to achieve higher levels of healthand well-being. Wallace (43) has reviewed experimental evidence onthe Transcendental Meditation program supporting the theory that thedirect experience of the unified field as pure consciousness produces anoptimally balanced state in the neurochemical environment of the bodythat maximizes the efficient use of the information in DNA to induceself-repair, holistic growth, and, hence, a higher level of health.Based on previous research, some physicians prescribe the TranscendentalMeditation program for stress management, and there are twoorganizations that serve the over 6000 physicians who have learned theTranscendental Meditation technique and many more who recommendit. Future large-scale research in business, industry, military, governental,or educational settings would further clarify the ability of thispromising technology of health enhancement to prevent disease and toreduce medical care costs.References1.
