God’s Character And Personality101understanding comes through the true meanings of God’svarious titles or names. In The Old Testament, seven basicdesignations are used for God. However, only two nameshave been used in The Old and New Testament translationsfor these seven titles. Those two names are “God” and“Lord.” Nevertheless, seven different, meaningful titlesare used when God’s name is mentioned. The meanings ofthese seven titles or names tell you what He is really like– and fully explain His plan.ElohimGenesis 1:26 is a famous verse. Here, the true meaning forGod is distinct, explanatory and carries a great insight,“ 26 And God said.” The word “God” in Hebrew comes from“Elohim.” “El” in Hebrew means “mighty.” When yousee “El” it conveys God as being “mighty.” But the word“Elohim” is a plural word which translates to “manifestinga multiplicity” or “plurality of God.” “Elohim” can alsomean “angels,” “elders” or “judges.” Christians get confusedby this meaning and come up with two or three gods– hence the common trinity. However, the name “Elohim”carries a far bigger connotation than merely referring toseparate individuals. The verse in question goes on to say,“ 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image.” To whomis He talking?The Bible tells you that in the beginning The Word waswith God and The Word was God. Does this mean thatGod and Christ were sitting down and having a seriousconversation together? That may seem logical. However,in this verse, He was referring to many more beings thanjust two having a conversation between themselves. How
