456 God’s Puzzle Solvedcompassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses,let us lay aside every weight and the sin which does soeasily beset us and let us run with patience the racethat is set before us, 2 Looking to Jesus the authorand finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was setbefore him endured the cross, despising the shameand is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.3For consider him that endured such contradiction ofsinners against himself, lest you be wearied and faintin your minds. 4 You have not yet resisted to blood,striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten theexhortation which speaks to you as to children, Myson, despise not you the chastening of the Lord, norfaint when you are rebuked of him: 6 For whom theLord loves he chastens and scourges every son whomhe receives. 7 If you endure chastening, God deals withyou as with sons; for what son is he whom the fatherchastened not? 8 But if you be without chastisement,whereof all are partakers, then are you bastards andnot sons. 9 Further more we have had fathers of ourflesh which corrected us and we gave them reverence:shall we not much rather be in subjection to theFather of spirits and live? 10 For they verily for a fewdays chastened us after their own pleasure; but he forour profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.11Now no chastening for the present seems to bejoyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldsthe peaceable fruit of righteousness to them whichare exercised thereby. 12 Wherefore lift up the handswhich hang down and the feeble knees; 13 And makestraight paths for your feet, less that which is lamebe turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.14Follow peace with all men and holiness, without
