The Spirit Versus The Letter377to restore life. This compares with The Tree of Life andparadise. It relates to Adam and Eve and their children.In order to come to Christ, one needs to repent. When onedoesn’t repent, The Law of Moses is added (more homeworkfrom the schoolmaster until they get it right) to bringthat person to Jesus. Once one is repentant, he/she nolonger needs The Law of Moses to tell him what is right orwrong. The New Covenant writes God’s Law (Ten Commandments)in your heart by changing your nature. Now,Christians come under a higher standard than The Law ofMoses, which was written in the letter for those unrepentantpeople.Jesus said in Matthew 5:20 “a Christian must be morerighteous than The Law of Moses demands in the letter”(paraphrased). Since God places His love or agàpè in yourheart (New Covenant), you will keep The Ten Commandmentsspiritually. Hence, it will keep you from killing,coveting and idolizing. This is because you love God andyour neighbor. This is a much higher level of righteousnessthan The Law of Moses. Never forget that, becauseof human nature, mankind can never keep the whole Lawof Moses.Answer To Spirit And LetterWhat is the answer to the letter and the spirit? It is simple!One cannot keep the letter and the spirit. The letterrequires human effort, deeds and works. Since humanscannot keep the entire Law of Moses, mankind falls underthe curse of The Law which is death. Keeping The Law ofMoses by human effort denies Christ and your need forHim and The Holy Spirit. You can’t have it both ways.
