God’s <strong>Puzzle</strong>41So there have been many hurricanes in my life. They’reno fun.The Pacific Ocean is just what the word says – “Pacific”– meaning “very peaceful” and “calm.” Often our shipwould be thousands of miles from land and as one lookedout over the ocean, it was so calm that it resembled a sheetof glass. It looked like you could walk on that smoothglass-like surface. Then, at other times, it was so bad thateveryone was seasick, including the salty captain. Everyonewould sit on the deck trying to get all the fresh airthey could breathe in. Some prearranged to have cratesof oranges handy to suck on. I would get so sick and imploreGod, “Please let me die.” On the other hand, it wasquite boring in between the hurricanes and the calm ofthe blue Pacific Ocean. So, I read everything in the ship’slibrary. In time, at 30-day intervals, any sailor wouldrun out of books. I found there was one book that hadn’tbeen read. That is when I opened up a book called TheBible.Opening The BibleReading and studying The Bible in between frequent boutsof hurricane induced seasickness gave me the opportunityto attempt to understand The Bible’s meaning. Most ofit was confusing and it didn’t make sense. Coming froma Christian background, I understood many things likethe existence of God and that Jesus Christ was The Sonof God. He sacrificed Himself to save all the people inthe world. I understood all about that, but I never reallycomprehended where this Bible information was leading.I knew about God and Christ and the stories about Mo-
