Remember, the wordin Greek for “fire” is “pur” meaning “pure” or “purify.”The purpose of The Holy Spirit is to purify.The result was that the baptism of The Holy Spirit “ 3 satupon each of them.” The participants spoke in foreigntongues because God gave them that ability as a gift toHis church so they could explain Christ’s teachings to theunbelievers in their language. They discovered the truthin their own native tongue. There was no need to speakin tongues for the believers who already understood thelanguage (I Corinthians 14).
