The Spirit Versus The Letter365The Law of Moses (added law) was introduced because ofsin (Galatians 3:16-19). These two covenants help interpretThe Bible. The Abrahamic Covenant was based on apromise because Abraham had been faithful. Therefore,it was counted to him as righteousness. What made Abrahamrighteous was his faith (Hebrews 11). Even thoughThe Law of Moses was not in force for another 430 years(Galatians 3:17), Abraham kept the whole Law accordingto God. He was considered righteous because of his faith(Genesis 26:5). This is just like Christians today who haveagàpè (God’s Law in their heart). They are described byThe Apostle Paul as having fulfilled (completed) the entireLaw (Romans 13:10). This covenant made by God, throughMoses, for Israel had an entirely different purpose.Galatians 3:19 clearly states how this added Law of Moseswas given because Israel sinned and had an unrepentantheart (Deuteronomy 5:29). In fact, God wanted tokill them. However, Moses intervened and God insteadgave them The Law of Moses, which was administered byMoses. This administration was known as The Administrationof The Letter. Paul declares that this covenant,including The Law of Moses and The Ten Commandments,was written on two tables of stone (II Corinthians 3:3).Paul shows how this Law was written on stone (includingjudgments, ordinances, and statutes) to bring them to death,“For the letter kills, but the spirit gives life” (II Corinthians3:6). Paul plainly states the purpose of the added Law ofMoses, was to bring Israel to death. Why was this?The Law had many purposes. The Law told what righteousnesswas (Philippians 3:6). It was also a shadow (picturingthe future) of things to come (Hebrews 10:1-2). It was to
