Who Is God?73John 4:19-24 19 The woman said to him, Sir, I perceivethat you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped inthis mountain; and you say, that in Jerusalem is theplace where men ought to worship. 21 Jesus said to her,Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when you shallneither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worshipthe Father. 22 You worship you know not what: we knowwhat we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 Butthe hour comes and now is, when the true worshippersshall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for theFather seeks such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit:and they that worship him must worship him in spiritand in truth.The Disciples were shocked to see Jesus speaking to a Samaritanwoman. He said, “ 10 I’m going to give you water ofwhich you will never thirst” (paraphrased). He tells her thatHe is Christ and that He will be able to give her living waters.The Jews were given The Oracles (the truth) of God.They had been directed to worship in the temple whereGod resided. Then Jesus described an alternative. Hesaid, “ 23 But the hour comes and now is, when the true worshippersshall worship the Father in spirit and in truth.”Worship Without A TempleAfter the destruction of the temple, no physical place remainedfor The Christians to meet. So now, Jesus Christresides in every converted Christian person, “For the Fatherseeks such to worship him [those who worship in Spirit]24God, is a Spirit.” Spirit is a substance of which God iscomposed. On the other hand, mankind has skin andbones. Humans can be burned and end up as dust or ash.
