The Covenants331Here is the answer, “The law is not made for a righteousman but for the lawless and disobedient.” Does that soundlike it is important for Christians? Rather it says, “forthe ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, formurderers of fathers.” For whom did God make The Law?It was made only for unconverted people. That is its solepurpose according to God. That is why they were given achoice. The Law was made to control the ungodly. It was filled with works and religious acts that were aburden. Humans do not naturally (inherently) know rightfrom wrong. God said, “Oh that [if] there were such aheart in them” (Deuteronomy 5:29). This concerns repentance.God pleaded with them to repent. Galatians 3:23-24states, “to be under the Law is to be under a schoolmaster.”They did not have enough schooling (prayer and faith) totruly repent. Real repentance is a condition in your mindwhereby God can write His Laws in your heart.II Corinthians 3:1-6 1 Do we begin again to commendourselves? Or need we, as some others, epistles ofcommendation to you, or letters of commendation fromyou? 2 You are our epistle written in our hearts, knownand read of all men: 3 Forasmuch as you are manifestlydeclared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us,written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the livingGod; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of theheart. 4 And such trust have we through Christ toGod-ward: 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves tothink any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency isof God; 6 Who also has made us able ministers of thenew testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: forthe letter kills, but the spirit gives life.
