12 DE-INSTALLING EXHIBITION<br />

Permitted Actions<br />

Dismantling and removal of fixed exhibition<br />

elements within a dedicated display space provided<br />

heritage fabric nearby is protected from falling<br />

debris and dust with covers and screens.<br />

Pack up into crates and boxes within the display space.<br />

Removal of crates and boxes through OPH<br />

provided the approved egress path is followed<br />

see Figure 17: Access and Egress.<br />

Cleaning of floors, walls, ceilings, windows<br />

provided it is carried out in accordance with<br />

Housekeeping Permitted Action Schedule.<br />

Not Permitted Actions<br />

Removal of fixed display material without<br />

protecting heritage fabric or providing dust proof<br />

or dust retention for the immediate area.<br />

Pack up in heritage spaces which are<br />

not dedicated display areas.<br />

Removal of crates and boxes through OPH<br />

following routes other than the approved egress<br />

path shown in Figure 17: Access and Egress.<br />

Cleaning of floors, walls, ceilings, windows<br />

without reference to the Housekeeping<br />

Permitted Action Schedule and prior<br />

consultation with the OPH Heritage staff.<br />

13 NEED FOR NATURAL <strong>AND</strong> ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING<br />

Permitted Actions<br />

Adding additional light fittings to<br />

existing lighting tracks.<br />

Checking and setting lighting levels<br />

of non- heritage lighting.<br />

Applying block-out filters to windows.<br />

Additional lighting may be used in areas designated<br />

on Figure 16: Event and Tourism use. However<br />

extreme care should be taken when positioning lights<br />

to avoid combustible and fragile surfaces. Cool lights,<br />

filtered for ultraviolet radiation, should be used.<br />

Installing stable, non-abrasive, clean type of hard or<br />

soft clear protective UV cover that is removable and<br />

does not require fixing to historic fabric to keep<br />

it in place.<br />

Temporarily repositioning movable furniture or<br />

other portable items so that they may be cleaned<br />

provided it is carried out in accordance with<br />

Housekeeping Permitted Action Schedule.<br />

Altering the lighting levels in areas by using different<br />

types and wattage of globes in existing light fixtures.<br />

Introduction of freestanding UV filter or blackout<br />

screens positioned directly in front of windows.<br />

Introduction of freestanding light meters or sensors<br />

to maintain appropriate light conditions for the<br />

conservation of historic materials and objects.<br />

Installing self-adhesive polyester solar film to<br />

the internal face of window glazing to reduce<br />

the transmittance of UV radiation, visible light<br />

or solar heat or a combination of the three. The<br />

selected colouring must match previously applied<br />

examples or as specified by OPH Heritage staff.<br />

Not Permitted Actions<br />

Adding a new track/system or altering the<br />

position of existing lighting tracks.<br />

Altering light levels or interfering<br />

with heritage light fittings.<br />

Fixing protective covers in any way directly to historic<br />

fabric. This includes the use of any form of fixing<br />

tape not previously approved by OPH Heritage staff.<br />

Repositioning of movable heritage item without<br />

reference to Housekeeping Permitted Action Schedule<br />

and prior consultation with the OPH Heritage staff.<br />

Altering the lighting levels in areas by<br />

installing new light fittings.<br />

Installing UV filter or blackout screens<br />

fixed directly to window frames.<br />

Installing fixed light meters or sensors to<br />

maintain appropriate light conditions for the<br />

conservation of historic materials and objects.<br />

Installing solar film to the external<br />

face of window glazing.<br />

Installing solar film that mismatches<br />

other previously applied examples.
