■■Policy 6.1.4 Old Parliament House management must avoid functions and events that<br />

would restrict public access to the place or parts of the place for an extended period,<br />

and those that may place undue stress on the fabric of the building.<br />

■■This schedule has been developed in line with all relevant OPH plans and<br />

■■policies, including the OPH Collection Management Policy.<br />

2 WHAT THIS SCHEDULE COVERS<br />

2.1 ACTIVITIES COVERED BY THIS SCHEDULE<br />

Activities associated with planning, managing and undertaking contract within OPH.<br />

2.2 WHO IS AFFECTED BY THIS SCHEDULE:<br />

This schedule affects the activities associated with:<br />

■■Contractors working in OPH<br />

3 DEFINITIONS<br />

■■For the purposes of this schedule, ‘Contractor’ is taken to include a person or<br />

business which provides goods or services under terms specified in a contract with Old<br />

Parliament House, defined as Old Parliament House (OPH) in the HMP.<br />

■■Housekeeping is maintenance through cleaning and preventative conservation.<br />

■■Handling is physically moving objects over both very short and longer distances.<br />

■■Curtilage is the area surrounding the building within the National Heritage Listed boundary.<br />

4 WORKING IN OPH<br />

4.1 GENERAL<br />

■■The overarching principle when working and planning contractor activities within<br />

the OPH Building and Curtilage, is ensuring heritage fabric is protected.<br />

4.2 CONTRACTORS<br />

Contractors should:<br />

■■Be fully briefed before commencing work at OPH. A copy of the Contractor Permitted Actions Schedule<br />

should be issued, read and returned signed before commencement of contractor activity.<br />

■■Visit the site prior to commencing work and undergo a Heritage Awareness Training<br />

session for all contractors and their staff prior to commencing work.<br />

■■Provide attendants at doors and bottlenecks to assist and protect surfaces,<br />

doors not to be left unattended or allowed to be wedged open.<br />

■■Ensure safe storage of equipment for set up and set down is discussed so<br />

that heritage fabric is not damaged by equipment being stored.<br />

■■Coordinate the process used to set up and pack up contractor equipment and materials with<br />

the assistance of Heritage staff. This will highlight the possibility of needing to move or protect<br />

heritage objects and fabric during the set up, pack up and running of contractor activity.<br />

OPH will:<br />

■■Provide Heritage Awareness Training.<br />

■■Continually monitor and supervise contractors whilst on site - generally this is the responsibility of the<br />

person engaging the contractor, but may occur in conjunction with a staff member from Heritage.<br />

■■Ensure contractors are aware of speed, parking and traffic restrictions in the area.
