6.3.1 Old Parliament House management must<br />

ensure a traffic and parking management plan in<br />

conjunction with the National Capital Authority which<br />

maintains the historical connection with motor traffic<br />

and meets the contemporary demands of visitor<br />

access and is consistent with the statement of intent<br />

and objectives of the Landmark Zone.<br />

6.4.1 Pre - 1988 building services must continue in<br />

use where they contribute to Old Parliament House’s<br />

heritage values, unless;<br />

a the continued use would adversely impact on the<br />

heritage values; or,<br />

b where precluded by health and safety<br />

considerations.<br />

6.4.2 Old Parliament House management must<br />

provide services to meet optimum environmental<br />

parameters for the conservation of the heritage<br />

values at Old Parliament House, in a manner<br />

consistent with the conservation of heritage values.<br />

6.4.3 Existing services must be maintained and<br />

potential new services assessed and introduced,<br />

in accordance with the procedures of this Heritage<br />

Management Plan.<br />

6.4.4 The introduction of new services requires an<br />

Action Assessment unless stated in the relevant<br />

Permitted Action Schedule.<br />

6.4.5 Redundant pre-1988 building services should<br />

be conserved and retained (see policies 1.4 and 1.5)<br />

and labelled as no longer in use.<br />

6.5.1 New and replacement plant and plant rooms<br />

must be accommodated in existing pre-1988 plant<br />

rooms, where this is feasible and where this does<br />

not adversely impact on the heritage values of those<br />

areas.<br />

6.5.2 Generally, accommodate new plant and plant<br />

rooms in areas identified as having a low sensitivity<br />

to change in this Heritage Management Plan where<br />

existing pre-1988 plant rooms cannot be utilised.<br />

Specific tasks<br />

In conjunction with the National<br />

Capital Authority review and implement<br />

appropriate traffic and parking<br />

management consistent with the Heritage<br />

Management Plan.<br />

Review fire service requirements in the<br />

Chambers Zone.<br />

Conservators working on the hand painted wall features in the Members’<br />

Private Dining Room<br />
