4 Communication and Interpretation<br />

Old Parliament House management must maintain ongoing consultation with community and government bodies<br />

regarding Actions affecting the place and will undertake a comprehensive program of interpretation of the heritage<br />

values to the community, both on-site and through a variety of outreach programs.<br />

4.1.1 Action proposals must fulfil the internal and<br />

external consultation requirements contained in<br />

the Heritage Management Plan (through the Action<br />

Proposal Form).<br />

consultation<br />

4.2.1 Old Parliament House management must<br />

pursue an active program of community consultation<br />

in relation to proposed actions that may have a<br />

significant adverse impact on the heritage values and<br />

may trigger the need for referral under the EPBC Act<br />

through which statutory community consultation will<br />

be undertaken.<br />

4.2.2 Actions with the potential to impact on<br />

Indigenous heritage values must be preceded by<br />

appropriate Indigenous community consultation.<br />

4.2.3 Old Parliament House management may<br />

establish a web-based information service that<br />

includes a notifications section on forthcoming<br />

events, open workshops, proposed actions (which<br />

may have a significant impact on the heritage values<br />

of the place) and provides opportunities for public<br />

comment on any matter.<br />

4.2.4 Old Parliament House management may place<br />

public advertisements in relevant media, in addition<br />

to a web-based information service, to disseminate<br />

information regarding proposed actions and invite<br />

public comment.<br />

4.2.5 Old Parliament House management may<br />

conduct an open public workshop as part of revising<br />

the rolling five-year potential use plan each year and<br />

prepare a report on its outcomes.<br />

4.2.6 Old Parliament House management must<br />

consult with, and keep informed, the volunteers at<br />

Old Parliament House in relation to proposed actions<br />

which may have a significant adverse impact on the<br />

heritage values.<br />

4.2.7 Old Parliament House management must<br />

provide an information stall in-house to inform<br />

visitors of the formal building works program and<br />

management regime and to invite comments.<br />

Annually update stakeholder contact lists.<br />

Ensure consultation with external<br />

stakeholders as required including (but<br />

not limited to):<br />

• National Capital Authority<br />

• ACT Government; and<br />

• Department of the Environment,<br />

Water, Heritage and the Arts.<br />

Develop a web-based information service<br />

for internal and external stakeholders.<br />

Conduct annual potential use plan<br />

workshop, report on its outcomes and<br />

integrate these findings into the revised<br />

Use Plan.<br />

Develop and implement in-house<br />

information stall as required.
