172 Old Parliament House and Curtilage Heritage Management Plan <strong>2008–2013</strong><br />

4 DEFINITIONS<br />

For the purposes of this schedule, ‘Events’ is taken to include functions, enactments,<br />

mock Parliaments, celebrations that are undertaken within Old Parliament House<br />

Grounds, defined as Old Parliament House and Curtilage in the HMP.<br />

For the purposes of this schedule, ‘Tourism’ is taken to include guided and self tours through OPH.<br />

Level 1 events may involve:<br />

■■small amounts of technical equipment such as a mobile PA system, lectern,<br />

projector with screen to be placed within heritage zones<br />

■■single or small groups (up to five) people speaking or performing basic character roles within heritage zones<br />

■■moving of small heritage furniture such as chairs or coffee tables<br />

■■placement of non-heritage furniture in public access areas<br />

■■provision of water service for speakers<br />

■■after hours access by staff, contractors, volunteer speakers and visitors<br />

■■filming and photography (media, non-media, public)<br />

■■flower arrangements<br />

■■banners, signage and other promotional materials<br />

■■ event training for staff and volunteers.<br />

Level 2 events may involve:<br />

■■simple-complex staging (including props and sets), sound and lighting<br />

set up with free-standing rigging by external contractors<br />

■■decorations such as balloons, streamers, Christmas trees, giant ribbons internally and externally<br />

■■candles<br />

■■use of equipment such as musical instruments and associated technical equipment<br />

■■catering<br />

■■provision of bar service<br />

■■moving of heritage furniture and objects<br />

■■large audiences<br />

■■use of multiple spaces simultaneously<br />

■■visitor access to non-public areas<br />

■■after hours access by staff, contractors, volunteer speakers and visitors<br />

■■filming and photography (media, non-media, public)<br />

■■flower arrangements<br />

■■banners, signage and other promotional materials<br />

■■event training for staff and volunteers.<br />

Level 3 events may involve:<br />

■■animals<br />

■■large-scale staging<br />

■■large-scale, raked audience seating<br />

■■rigging of technical equipment for performances, which may include scaffolding<br />

■■catering<br />

■■bar service<br />

■■pyrotechnics
