8 Environmental Management<br />

Old Parliament House management must endeavour to maintain best practice in sustainable environmental<br />

management, with a strong emphasis on disaster preparedness planning, consistent with the conservation of the<br />

heritage values of the place.<br />

introduce an environmental management system<br />

that provides for the effective management of<br />

renewable and non-renewable resources, through<br />

identifying base level use and emissions and<br />

providing strategies to improve performance to meet<br />

identified targets.<br />

8.2.1 Old Parliament House management must<br />

assess all building waste for potential heritage value<br />

prior to disposal, in accordance with Policy 1.5.<br />

Pest Management<br />

8.3<br />

Pest control<br />

8.3.1 Old Parliament House management must<br />

ensure that pest control is undertaken as part of an<br />

ongoing program, and in a manner that does not<br />

compromise heritage values or the environment<br />

through:<br />

• development and implementation of an integrated<br />

pest management plan. Ensure its consistency<br />

with the heritage values of Old Parliament House<br />

(particularly in relation to the use of chemicals on<br />

or near sensitive fabric)<br />

• understanding of the impact of control systems<br />

and chemicals on the conservation of heritage<br />

values<br />

• regular inspections; and<br />

• management of incoming material and pest<br />

vectors.<br />

8.3.2 Old Parliament House management must<br />

store, inspect and fumigate all material entering the<br />

building where they may introduce pests.<br />

8.3.3 Old Parliament House management must liaise<br />

with the NCA to ensure that the gardens are regularly<br />

inspected for evidence of pests.<br />

and collection, including regular pest<br />

inspections.
