research impacts<br />

1.14.1 Old Parliament House management must<br />

conduct ongoing research into the heritage values of<br />

the place.<br />

1.14.2 Old Parliament House management must<br />

prepare a public schedule of priority research areas<br />

to encourage research activity into areas that will<br />

assist in the management of heritage values.<br />

1.14.3 Old Parliament House management must<br />

maintain and expand the oral history program.<br />

1.13.4 Old Parliament House management must<br />

maintain and expand the room by room/area and<br />

movable collection research and documentation.<br />

1.14.5 Old Parliament House management may<br />

facilitate research through partnerships with tertiary<br />

institutions.<br />

1.14.6 Old Parliament House management must<br />

store research data in a sustainable and permanent<br />

form and make it publicly available, subject to the<br />

requirements of security and privacy, where this is<br />

culturally appropriate.<br />

1.14.7 Old Parliament House management must<br />

maintain a Reference Collection of highly significant<br />

items of movable heritage and examples of common<br />

movable items in good condition, for research and<br />

conservation purposes (Collection Management<br />

Policy 7).<br />

1.15.1 ‘Disturbance of significant fabric for study,<br />

or to obtain evidence, should be minimised. Study<br />

of the place by any disturbance of the fabric,<br />

including archaeological excavation, should only be<br />

undertaken to provide data essential for decisions<br />

on conservation of the place, or to obtain important<br />

evidence about to be lost or made inaccessible’<br />

(Burra Charter, Article 28).<br />

1.15.2 Research in Old Parliament House must be<br />

considered an Action requiring the assessment of an<br />

Action Proposal Form, unless specifically permitted<br />

in the Building Fabric Investigation Permitted Actions<br />

Schedule.<br />

Undertake ongoing research program<br />

in order to document and prepare<br />

Statements of Value for all spaces in<br />

Old Parliament House.<br />

Review and where necessary update the<br />

Education Policy to ensure integration<br />

with the research aims of Old Parliament<br />

House.<br />

Identify and publish priority research<br />

areas.<br />

Develop and implement a list of heritage<br />

studies required in priority order.<br />

Prepare priorities for the oral history<br />

program.<br />

Investigate the provision of funding<br />

assistance for research by external<br />

parties (eg university students) where the<br />

research is beneficial to the management<br />

of the heritage values at Old Parliament<br />

House.<br />

Identify relevant archival material in the<br />

possession of government departments,<br />

agencies or other institutions which is<br />

relevant to Old Parliament House. Assess<br />

risks to the archival material and where<br />

under threat seek their return to<br />

Old Parliament House.<br />

Maintain and extend as needed the<br />

Reference Collection of movable heritage.<br />

Develop and implement Research<br />

Permitted Actions Schedule.
