The amount of solar heat energy transmitted directly through glass compared to the
amount of solar heat energy hitting the glass. It is typically expressed as a percentage.
Solar spectrum
Solar spectrum is the term used to describe the total distribution of electromagnetic
radiation emitted from the sun which ranges from X-raysto infrared rays. The different
regions of the solar spectrum are described by their waveband ranges. Approximately
99 percent of the heating energy caused by solar radfiation is contained in a waveband
ranging from 300nm (ultraviolet) to 2500nm (near-infrared).
Sound transmission class (STC)
A measure that relates the sound reduction against sounds which normally occur inside a
building.
Spacer
A hollow shape used to provide a fixed air space between two pieces of glass to obtain
thermal or acoustical properties. Usually filled with desiccant.
Span
The dimension between supports. For panels supported on all four edges, it corresponds
to the smaller of the sight size dimensions. For panels supported on two edges it
