WERS<br />

Window Efficiency Rating System<br />

Wet seal<br />

Application of an elastomeric sealant between the glass and frame or glass to form<br />

a weather-tight seal. Similar to silicone seal.<br />

WHP laminate<br />

An automotive quality laminated safety glass with high penetration resistance and high<br />

light transmission (Windscreen High Performance).<br />

Wind load<br />

The pressure acting on an external surface of a building caused by the direct action<br />

of the wind.<br />

Window rating<br />

The level of performance for strength, weatherproofing, or insulation of windows and doors<br />

as determined by test. Window ratings for housing are expressed in wind classification<br />

terms, and window ratings for buildings other than housing are expressed in design wind<br />

pressure terms.<br />

Wind zones<br />

Those areas identified by local building authorities or specifying authorities as subject to<br />

specific ranges of wind pressure and loads.<br />

Wired glass<br />

Glass having a layer of meshed or stranded wire embedded near to the centre of thickness<br />

of the panel. This glass is available as polished glass (one or both surfaces polished to<br />

make it clear) and patterned glass. Refer to Pyroshield.<br />

Work life<br />

The time during which a curing sealant (usually of two compounds) remains suitable for<br />

use after being mixed with a catalyst. Also known as Pot Life.<br />

Xerogel<br />

A type of transparent insulation material similar to aerogel but simpler to manufacture. It<br />

has both a higher visible transmittance and higher thermal conductivity than aerogel.<br />

Zenith<br />

The point on the skydome directly overhead, a 90 degree solar altitude.<br />
