Finally we come to El Floral, a lookout point at about 3280ft (1000m). In the
morning light we can see down across the treetops to the patchwork fields below
and all the way across the navy waters of Lake Nicaragua to the mainland. On
some days you can actually see the Pacific Ocean, our guide tells us, but today is
a little hazy. We crouch and eat our sandwiches of avocado and salty farmer’s
cheese, then share a ripe, sweet local mango. Fortified, we push on.
