HEADS FOR HEIGHTS

Snowdon was the training ground for the expedition that took Edmund Hillary and

Tenzing Norgay to the summit of Mt Everest in 1953. The team stayed in the Pen-y-

Gwryd Hotel, which has become a place of pilgrimage for mountaineers. A small

glass cabinet in the bar displays memorabilia from their expedition, including

climbing rope, boots, oxygen tanks, prayer flags and a Peruvian shrunken head.
