Rota Vicentina is a network of trails, including the Historical Way, the Fishermen’s
Trail and several circular routes, on Portugal’s wild Costa Vicentina, which runs
south to Cabo de São Vicente, Europe’s southwestern-most point. Offering
glimpses of both unspoilt rural Portuguese culture and one of Europe’s bestpreserved
stretches of coastline, the trails cross the Parque Natural do Sudoeste
Alentejano e Costa Vicentina with its stratified cliffs and surf beaches. Sticking
closest to the coast, the 75-mile (120km) Fishermen’s Trail follows the paths used by
locals to reach the best beaches and fishing spots, while the 143-mile (230km)
Historical Way focuses instead on the region’s historical towns and villages.
