As much as history, the trail’s appeal lies in its mix of romantic ruins and
Mediterranean scenery with the comforts of whitewashed harbour towns such as
Kas and Kalkan, where hikers enjoy well-earned fish and meze feasts. A favourite
chill-out spot along the way was Kabak, another village with limited access,
reached only by foot or high-clearance vehicle down steep forest tracks. The
valley’s traditional industries of farming and bee-keeping have been joined by a
handful of new-age retreats offering rustic cabins, morning yoga and terrace
restaurants with sea views. It was a wonderful place to relax after braving the ropeassisted
path up from the beach at the foot of Butterfly Valley’s sheer cliffs.
