Minimum Lateral Force for Design of Slab Form

Bracing Systems

The minimum lateral loads required for the design of slab form

bracing are presented in Table 5-8. The horizontal load shown in

Table 5-8 is in lb per lin ft, applied along the edge of the slab in

either direction as illustrated in Figure 5-20. Where unbalanced

loads from the placement of concrete or from starting or stopping of

equipment may occur, a structural analysis of the bracing system

should be made.

Minimum Time for Forms and Supports to Remain in Place

The minimum time for stripping forms and removal of supporting

shores is a function of concrete strength, which should be specified by

the engineer/architect. The preferred method of determining stripping

time is using tests of job-cured cylinders or concrete in place.

The American Concrete Institute ACI Committee 347 [3] provides

recommendations for removal of forms and shores. Table 5-9 provides

the suggested minimum times that forms and supports should

remain in place under ordinary conditions. These recommendations

are in accordance with ACI Committee 347.
