three 8- by 9-ft hollow vertical cells. The middle section has plan

dimensions of 40 by 12 ft, with three 8- by 8-ft hollow vertical cells.

The top section consists of two 8- by 7-ft solid rectangular columns

constructed with slipforms. Two equal piers were constructed for the

bridge.

Towers

The Reunion Tower in Dallas, Texas, is shown in Figure 15-9. Formwork

for the tower consisted of three 14-ft-diameter elements around

a central 27-ft-diameter core, which was slipformed as one unit.

Three slipform decks, spaced 10 ft apart, were supported by horizontal

and vertical trusses and by diagonal cable bracing to tie the

three levels together. Crews working two shifts of about 9½ hours

averaged more than 10 ft of progress per day. On the best day, the

crew completed 18 ft of vertical height on the tower. The day shift

slipformed and the night shift stocked material. The crane delivered

steel and concrete to the top level, workers on the lower level

received and placed the reinforcing steel, and concrete masons on

the bottom level finished the tower legs. The tower was topped out

in 68 working days.
