Forms for Architectural Concrete 405

4. Erect the inside wall forms.

5. Bring all forms to the proper alignment, then brace and

securely fasten all form parts.

Order of Stripping Forms

At the time the details for making forms are prepared, the order and

methods of stripping should be considered. Unless care is exercised in

making and erecting forms, it may be discovered that some parts, panels,

or members cannot be removed without wholly or partly destroying

them. Because many panels are to be removed and reused, it is important

to erect them in a manner that will permit their removal without

damage. Parts or panels that are to be removed first should not be placed

behind other parts that will be removed later. Such parts should be fastened

together with double-headed nails, which can be removed easily.

Wood Molds

Wood molds are used as formwork to cast ornamental designs for cornices,

pilasters, belt courses, water tables, and other members for architectural

concrete. These molds are best adapted to ornaments requiring the

use of standard moldings or moldings that can be made in a mill. A form

unit consists of an assembly of several parts and pieces to produce the

specified profile or design for the concrete, as illustrated in Figure 14-6.
