The Symons timber brace nailer plate allows rapid attachment of

bracing when required by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health

Administration. These single-post shores are fully compatible with

Symons heavy-duty shoring.

Site Preparation for Shoring

The proposed shoring area should be cleared of all obstructions

before erection of shores. Special care should be given to determining

the capacity of the soil for every shoring job, to ensure adequate

bearing support for shores. Weather conditions can arise that can

create a poor ground condition, which may cause a hazardous situation.

If fill is required in shored areas, a qualified engineer should

be consulted to determine remedial measures that should be taken

to ensure safety. A solid concrete foundation pad on grade or a mud

sill should be installed to distribute the shoring load over a suitable

ground area.

Selecting the Size and Spacing of Shores

This example illustrates a method of determining the spacing of shores.

Consider a concrete slab 5 in. thick, supported by concrete beams

spaced at 20 ft center to center, as illustrated in Figure 6-4. The beam
