in order to permit preplacement of reinforcing steel and to lift the
slipforms for the placement of the concrete lining.
Slipforms for Special Structures
The slipform method of construction has been used successfully to
form special structures, such as the offshore platform shown in
Figure 15-14. In 1986, Norwegian contractors achieved a world
record by constructing the largest slipform project. The structure
has 30 cells, each with a diameter of 82 ft. The platform covers an
area of 182,920 sq ft and a linear edge length of 11,972 ft.
