placed and cured sufficiently, the forms are removed piece by piece,

or in relatively small sections, and moved to another location in the

building where they are reassembled for additional uses. Following

this procedure results in considerable cost for labor. In addition, it

delays the completion of the project.

If flying deck forms are used, the forms are preassembled into

sections or modules at ground level, using labor-saving equipment

and methods. They are then moved (flown) into position for concreting.

Each deck module is located in its proper position, and its height

is adjusted to the correct elevation. Filler strips are then placed

between the deck modules. Reinforcing steel is placed, electrical and

plumbing components are installed, and any other services that are

required are performed. Then the concrete is placed.

When the concrete has attained sufficient strength, the flying deck

forms are lowered from beneath the newly placed concrete slab,

moved to the edge of the supporting concrete slab, and hoisted to a

higher level for reuse. The most recently placed concrete slab should

be reshored immediately before any loads are placed on it.
