Another example of the application of slipforming towers is the

CN Tower in Toronto, Canada (Figure 15-10). At a total height of 1,815 ft,

it is the world’s tallest freestanding structure and holds the record as

the tallest structure that has been built by the slipform method of

construction, 1,476 ft of slipforming. The slipform was specially

designed to be continuously adjustable during upward movement to

achieve the graceful taper of the tower’s triangular pedestal.

Concrete Buildings

Figure 15-11 illustrates the use of slipforms to construct the elevator

and stair core of the ARCO II building in Denver, Colorado. This

45-story structure rose to a height of 544 ft in 50 working days. Unlike

other slipformed structures, buildings are usually not slipformed on

a continuous 24 hour per day schedule. Instead, the slipforms are
