Accessory Items for Tubular Scaffolding

The following accessory items are available for use with tubular

scaffolding:

1. Base plates to provide solid footing for the scaffolding

2. Adjustable bases and screw jacks for adjustment to exact height

3. Locking devices to attach tube braces between adjacent scaffolds

4. Diagonal cross braces to provide rigidity to the scaffold

assembly

5. Coupling pins to connect two frames vertically

6. U-shaped shore heads for attachment of wood or metal

stringers

Figure 6-8 illustrates typical types of connections that are available

for scaffolding of Patent Construction Systems, and Figure 6-9

presents typical accessories available for steel scaffolding frames of

the Symons Corporation. Figure 6-10 shows a jobsite with tubular

steel frames in place.

Steel Tower Frames

Commercial steel tower frames are available to support high and heavy

loads, such as bridge piers or heavy beams. Tower frames are erected

in sections, each consisting of four legs with heights of 8 or 10 ft. Each

section is box shaped, fabricated from two welded frames and two

X-welded frames, with equal dimensions in the horizontal and vertical

directions. Up to four additional sections may be added to obtain a

maximum height of 40 ft for a four-tier tower. Each tower section is

securely fastened by frame couplers at each leg. A horizontal brace,

adjusted by a turnbuckle, is used to brace adjacent sections of the tower.

Tower frames are available with working load capacities of up to
