INTRODUCTION

The "Recommended Safety Guidelines for Shoring Concrete Formwork"

was developed to fill the need for a single, authoritative source of information

on shoring as used in the construction industry, and to provide recommendations

for the safe and proper use of this type of equipment.

The following safety guidelines were designed to promote safety and the

safe use of shoring in the construction industry. This document does not

purport to be all inclusive or to supplant or replace other additional safety and

precautionary measures to cover usual or unusual conuitions. Local, State,

or Federal statutes or regulations shall supersede these guidelines if there

is a conflict, and it is the responsibility of each employee to comply.

These safety guidelines set forth common sense piocedures for safety,

utilizing shoring equipment. However, equipment and systems differ and

accordingly, reference must always be made to the instructions and procedures

of the supplier of the equipment. Since field conditions vary and are

beyond the control of the Institute, safe and proper use of the equipment and

its maintenance is the responsibility of the user, and not the Institute.

This document was prepared by the Shoring Engineering Committee of the

Scaffolding, Shoring & Forming Institute, Inc., 1230 Keith Building, Cleveland,

Ohio, 44115.
