Wood Forms for Deck Slab Suspended from

Concrete Beams

Figure 16-4 illustrates a hanger frame designed for a precast prestressed

concrete beam. Provision is also made for forming a haunch

above the beam. The top strap is high-tensile steel and the hanger is

reinforced with bracing chairs for adequate strength on wider beams.

The design of the formwork components may be performed as illustrated

in Example 16-1.

Forms for Overhanging Deck Constructed on Exterior

Bridge Beams

Figure 16-5 illustrates a method of constructing an overhanging

deck on steel beams. The formwork hanger has two types of end

sections. A 90 o end section is used to support the formwork on the

interior side of the exterior beam, whereas a 45 o end section is used to

suspend bridge overhang brackets on the exterior side. This same

method may also be used for forming an overhang from precast prestressed

bridge beams by using a formwork hanger specially made

for concrete beams.

Figure 16-6 illustrates several methods of overhang formwork

when the bridge design will not allow the use of conventional bridge

overhang brackets. In Figure 16-6(a), a wide overhang is formed on a
