SECTION 1 — DEFINITIONS (Continued)

1.26 Locking Device — A device used to secure components.

1.27 Post Shore or Pole Shore* — Individual vertical member used to support load.

1.28 Reshoring — The construction operation in which the original shoring is adjusted or replaced to support partially

cured concrete and other imposed loads.

1.29 Roller Assembly — The mechanism of the rolling shore bracket that allows movement of the deck form across it.

1.30 Roller Beam — The primary load supporting member of the deck form supported by the rolling shore bracket.

1.31 Rolling Shore Bracket — A prefabricated welded or cast structural unit affixed to a wall or column and capable

of supporting the loads transmitted from a deck form, and also the rolling load transmitted by the movement of

the deck form.

1.32 Roll-Out — The act of moving the deck form across the roller assemblies to its position for next use or for crane

pickup.

1.33 Sate Leg Load — The ultimate leg load divided by the appropriate safety factor.

1.34 Sheathing — The material forming the contact face of forms; also called lagging or sheeting.

1.35 Shore Heads — Flat or formed members placed and centered on vertical shoring members.

1.36 Shoring or Falsework' — The elements used, excluding the formwork.to support fresh concrete and/or

structural members during construction.

1.37 Shoring Layout — An engineering drawing prepared prior to erection showing arrangements of equipment for

proper shoring based on manufacturer's recommended use and loading criteria.

1.38 Sill or Mud Sill* — A member (usually wood) designed to distribute the vertical shoring loads to the ground or

slab below.

1.39 Spacing — The horizontal center-to-center distance between support members.

1.40 Stringers or Ledgers' — Horizontal structural members which directly support joists.

1.41 System Scaffold Shoring — An assembly used as a load-carrying structure, consisting of fabricated columns,

braces, ties, adjustable bases, and other components which connect to the uprights to form the structure.

1.42 Towers — A composite structure of frames, braces, and accessories.

1.43 Tube and Coupler Shoring—An assembly used as a load-carrying structure, consisting of tube or pipe which

serves as posts, braces and ties, a base supporting the posts, and special couplers which serve to connect the

uprights and join the various members.

1.44 Ultimate Load — The minimum load which may be placed on a structure causing failure.

* These terms, and others so marked, may be used synonymously.
