Slipforms 423

Silos and Mills

Concrete storage silos and feed processing buildings are the most

common structures constructed with slipforms. Silos may be individual

cells of various diameters, some exceeding 120 ft in height, or

they may be interconnected multiple cells where all silos, sometimes

20 or more, are slipformed simultaneously.

Feed processing buildings are typically tall rectangular structures

with multiple interior walls that divide the building into small square

and rectangular bins. Figure 15-7 shows a completed multiple cell

slipformed silo structure that is adjacent to a feedmill, which is in the

process of being slipformed. These types of structures are usually cast

monolithically in a continuous 24-hr operation, achieving average

speeds of 12 in. per hr, or 24 ft per day.
