Forms for Concrete Bridge Decks 447

Adjustable Steel Forms for Bridge Decks

Commercial steel forms which are adjustable are available for forming

bridge decks. As illustrated in Figure 16-9, this forming system

may be used for steel girders or prestressed concrete bridge girders.

This system consists of two distinctively different components: the

overhang system and the interior, or girder-to-girder, system.

The interior form system rests on the bottom flange of a concrete

or steel girder, as shown in Figure 16-10. Two sets of adjustable pipe

struts support a pair of slider assemblies that carry two interior form

soffit panels and are typically 12 ft long. A T-pan is a flat plate that

makes up the variable dimension between the two interior form soffit

panels. Interior form units are set in place with a crane and are

stripped with special handling and access equipment.

on the bottom flange of a concrete or steel girder. Structural steel

framing and walkboards create access for working the pipe struts
