hollow jack, which is attached to a yoke. When pressure is applied

to a jack, one element of it grips the jack rod and another element

moves upward, lifting the yoke with it (see Figure 15-5). When

pressure is released temporarily, the jack resets itself automatically

for another upward movement. Because all jacks are interconnected

to a centrally located pump, the oil pressure on each jack

will be the same, which should assure uniform upward movements.
