____ A broad, bushy shrub, hardly over 2 m tall, with long but hardly
branching shoots; leaves rough, elliptic to narrow, egg-shaped;
flowers appearing in May/June, yellow to orange, subtended by
large, reddish bracts; fruits crimson to black, subtended similarly
by the bracts - an undemanding plant, suitable for planting in
groups or free-growing hedges. H, R, St. Zone 5a.

the botanical garden of Darmstadt, Germany; an extraordinary,
