____ A very slow growing miniature cultivar with a squat, round
growth; shoots are very short and dense; hardly over 40 cm tall
even when older; leaves ovate, reddish-brown, turning dark red
later - a lovely, compact cultivar. H, R, Z. Zone 5a.
thunbergii ´Green Carpet´ - Barberry ´Green Carpet´
____ An interesting cultivar, up to 1 m tall with a spreading habit and
long overhanging branches; leaves broad, elliptic to round,
green, turning yellow-orange to red in autumn; flowers yellow
with red overtone and numerous in number; fruits rosy and long -
adapts well to city climates, suitable as a specimen or planting in
groups: good for planting along streets. B, K, R, St, Z. Zone 5a.
thunbergii ´Red Chief´ - Red Leaf Japanese Barberry
____ Shrub reaching man´s height with spreading habit and loose but
more or less overhanging branches; leaves narrow, purplish to
brownish-red - one of the prettiest amongst the red-leaved cultivars.

branches that stick out and bending towards the ground; leaves

yellow in hanging racemes appearing in May; fruits in October,
